Sun City…It’s hard not to absolutely adore a place that offers such a wealth of benefits to residents and visitors alike. There’s plenty of year-round sunshine, of course. And you can’t walk three feet without running into one of the community’s many superb championship golf courses.  But the benefits of Sun City living don’t come close to stopping there. In fact, the community offers such an abundance of high points that it’s next to impossible to narrow down the choices to a manageable list. Nevertheless, three jumped out at me, mainly because most of us focus much of our attention on these topics.

The first is cost savings. Not only is Sun City the first planned active retirement community, it’s also the best value. That’s right. Residents of this community are getting a big bargain, along with all the other benefits. Want to know how big a bargain? Have a look at how the city stacks up against other U.S. cities when it comes to living expenses.  Los Angeles, for example, will cost you 25% more each year.  Honolulu will snatch 40% more greenbacks from  your wallet. And New York City? The Big Apple will require you to spend 52% more each year than you’d be parting with in Sun City. In varying degrees, the same cost difference holds true in dozens of other U.S. cities. Is Sun City a bargain? You bet your bottom dollar!

Sun City also is tops when it comes to senior fitness, a position it’s held since the community was born in 1960.  To accommodate the rising demand for fitness education, the city currently offers seven excellent fitness centers. All of these facilities can get you into tip-top shape with a full selection of state-of-the-art equipment. This includes elliptical machines, treadmills, and stair steppers. And if you really want to get serious, you can choose from a variety of personal trainers. Let’s face it. Card games are fun. But they won’t put a spring in your step like fitness centers will. And you have more than enough to choose from in Sun City.

Along with doing for themselves, many residents long to give back to the community. Fortunately, Sun City offers these generous folks abundant opportunities. It’s no wonder the community is known as ‘The City of Volunteers’.  The primary focal point for volunteer work is the Sun City Visitor’s center. It’s as simple as going to the facility, filling out an application, and selecting volunteer organizations of interest.  Among the community’s many ‘volunteer zones’ are the local libraries; 4 Paws Rescue, a care center for homeless animals; and the Sun City Homeowner’s Association. And for the truly adventurous, there’s the Sun City Posse, a support organization that helps the sheriff’s office patrol the community. No matter what your interest or time availability, Sun City is the place to be for volunteer opportunities.
